The problem with buying for Dad in Canada

Search "gifts for dad Canada" and you get American listicles with Canadian prices bolted on. The price is in the wrong currency until checkout. Shipping doubles the cost, or the item is "currently unavailable in your region." The guides themselves are written by content farms, ranking whatever pays the highest commission, by someone who has never met a dad like yours.

Meanwhile the country is full of small makers, in Nelson and Hampton and Bloomfield, building things a dad would genuinely use for twenty years. They just don't show up on page one.

Canadian makers and retailers first, never Amazon. Every pick is priced in Canadian dollars and ships within Canada. "Made in Canada" here means we found the brand saying so, in its own words, on its own site — and we quote that claim rather than infer it. Not Canadian-owned importers, not maple-leaf marketing. A Popov wallet keeps a workshop busy in Nelson, BC. A Busted Wagon scraper keeps one going in Hampton, Ontario.

Built by a dad, not a content farm

Most gift guides are Amazon listings with a new headline, written by whoever needed a byline. This one is built by one Canadian dad of four who got tired of that. Every pick has a written reason it's here: who it suits, why it beats the obvious alternative, what to expect on price.

Ten percent of net affiliate profit goes to Hi Dad Foundation each year, a Canadian charity working on men's mental health, and $5 from every item in the shop goes the same way. No pay-for-placement

Brands can't buy a spot on a guide. We earn a commission if you buy through a link, which costs you nothing and never decides what gets listed.

Kept current

Guides are re-checked ahead of Father's Day and Christmas. Dead links, discontinued products, and price jumps get pulled or replaced.

Who's behind it

One Canadian dad of four in small-town Ontario, building this after bedtime. No staff, no sponsors, no brand paying for a spot. The Christian and Catholic section exists because faith is part of a lot of Canadian families and the gifts made for them are usually an afterthought or too cheesy to hand a grown man. The rest of the site is for any dad, of any faith or none.
